The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is probably more my fault than fault with the product. That is, it is exactly what it claims it is - a high quality whey protein powder. However, in my own personal case, I probably should have bought a product with WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE instead. If or when I drink this on an empty stomach, it seems to disagree with my gastrointestinal system especially if I use milk instead of water. Probably I have slight lactose intolerance. That being said, no GI issues when I took it after a small meal instead of on an empty stomach.
A few weeks ago, I went to buy another jug and saw that they were going for $80. That’s obscene! I made the decision that I needed to find a more affordable protein powder. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably found yourself here because you’re thinking the same thing. Well, let me put your mind at rest by saying that Nutricost Whey Protein Concentrate is your optimum replacement. Nutricost Whey Protein Concentrate packs 25 grams of protein, with only 3 grams of fat, and 3 grams of carbohydrates. It has a slightly higher fat content, but an additional 1.5 grams per serving is hardly something to worry about. It also boasts 6 simple ingredients, which was a must for me. There wasn’t a long list of chemicals and additives, and it contained no soy; which was something I had been looking to get away from. Nutricost Whey Protein Concentrate is also gluten-free, a non-GMO product, third party tested, and GMP compliant. Meaning, that it’s not some “fly by night” brand that’s just trying to make money off of you.
It tastes great and mixes well and is a great price for grass fed. I won’t buy again because of the 2nd ingredient. I should have looked more carefully. A very cheap filler (maltodextrin) is the 2nd ingredient. It acts like a sugar in the body and raises glucose higher than sugar. If you are a diabetic, look it up.
